Stump Grinding FAQs

We go to great lengths to avoid damaging your property or remaining landscape. Our team uses careful techniques and the right equipment to safeguard your landscape and structures while we work.

We remove a good portion of the root system and leave the area clean, so you’ll be able to plant shrubs or small plants in its place. That said, because we can’t remove the entire root system, we don’t recommend planting another large tree where the stump was – it’s not likely to thrive. If you want another tree in the same area, we recommend planting two to three feet away from where the previous tree was.

Not if you don’t want to be! As long as we’ve confirmed access and the plan in advance, you can go about your day.

ISA Certification means your arborist has met the highest standards of arboriculture knowledge and ethics, including extensive experience and continuing education. It’s a mark of trusted, science-based care.

We use a powerful stump grinder that chips away at the stump – typically 6-8 inches below the ground – to remove the entire above-ground stump, a majority of the root ball, and lateral roots 6-8 inches around the stump. This leaves the area level and ready for replanting or landscaping.

A small mound of chips will be left in place of the stump to fill the hole, so the area is safe and will level out when the chips settle. We typically haul away the excess chips, but can leave them if you prefer. Let us know during your estimate and we’ll include cleanup options in your quote.
